Obituary of Maureen Ann Larkin
Passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at the Atlantic Baptist Home at the age of 79.
She is predeceased by her parents Eugene and Margaret Larkin, infant sister Phyllis, her sisters Janet (MacDonald) and Irene, her brother Louis, sister-in-law Pat, and nephew Michael.
She will be forever remembered by her sister Florence, brother Danny, sister-in-law Lynn, and her nieces and nephews: Kelly, Shannon, Grace, Bobby, Danielle, Phyllis, Dustin, Mark. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Maureen lived with Parkinson’s Disease for 23 years but never let it define her. A community leader, she was a positive force for change at both local and international levels: Latin American Mission Program (LAMP), Cooper Institute, Voluntary Resource Council, PEI Parkinson’s Association, Community gardens, Breaking the Silence (BTS). Despite personal and societal obstacles, Maureen always viewed her life and her work for social justice as a joy, never a burden.
Her sense of curiosity and generosity of spirit allowed her to cultivate friendships with people from all walks of life. Compulsively extroverted and delightfully unpretentious, Maureen brought out the best in people, and could be found wherever there was music, singing, and dancing.
Visitation will take place on Thursday January 2nd from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dunstan's Basilica, Charlottetown on Friday January 3rd at 11:30 a.m. Internment later at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. A celebration of her life is being organized for later in the spring.
Maureen's family would like to thank the staff at the Atlantic Baptist Home who supported her independence and treated her with dignity and love. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Cooper Institute would be appreciated. Completion of funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home.
