Our condolences to you Florence, Kelly and all the family. Sorry we couldn't get to the wake or funeral. We have so many great memories of our times with Maureen: sharing meals and music; working on campaigns for social justice and peace; VRC and Cooper Institute events and much more. Maureen was a force of nature who inspired and will continue to inspire so many Islanders!
As Holly Near sings:
"It could have been me, but instead it was you
So I'll keep doing the work you were doing as if I were two
I'll be a student of life, a singer of songs
A farmer of food and a righter of wrongs. . ."

I have known Maureen since the early 1980s when she came to Newfoundland to do a masters degree. We worked together on her excellent thesis on the PEI lobster fishery and kept in contact afterwards for many years, visiting backwards and forwards as occasions allowed. She was an amazing, vibrant friend and colleague and strongly committed to social justice. So wonderful to see this beautiful picture of her smiling face. Many thanks to her family and friends who have supported her through the many long years of her journey with Parkinsons. Barb.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of this great woman. Maureen was generous, kind, loving and so much fun. We laughed together a lot when we shared houses during our MUN courses. Her pleasure in friends and family was clear. Her commitment to social justice and equality never questioned. It was a joy to know her.

It has been a long road for Maureen living with Parkinson's/challenges, and is a model of making every effort to live fully as possible. I knew her through the music of Carolyn McDade and the OBG (O Beautiful GAIA) group who met regularly for years and still periodically; at her request those of us available in the GAIA group will sing a piece at her funeral liturgy - what a privilege. Leave it to dear Maureen to ensure that was part of her parting plan. She has been a lay "peace worker" all these years I am filled with gratitude to have known this amazing woman. My condolences to the family; may you sense her energy/spirit nearby especially during those lonesome moments; may the memories of good times be of comfort. ... my very best, Judy (Donovan Whitty)

Dear Florence and the Larkin family,
I was in your UPEI 1971 class, though I don't remember having made your acquaintance. I extend to you and your family my deepest sympathy on your sister's death. The death of a sibling is always sorrowful, but you and the remaining family not only have each other, but will be supported by the love and compassion of friends.
In God's care and may light perpetual shine glowingly.

Maureen was more than a friend to me..she brought the world to my doorstep with visitors from many countries and stood beside me when I needed support most. She introduced me to Cooper Institute , one of the most inspirational groups I have ever had the honor of sitting at the table with. She shared perspectives from her travels that made me a much better person...I am grateful for all the sleepovers, trips, laughs and meals and family we shared together...her memory will always be a blessing <3
