Obituary of Louis Earl Hughes

Surrounded by his family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown on Sunday, July 9, 2023 the death occurred of Louis Earl Hughes of Stratford, age 85 years. 

 

Beloved husband of 63 years to Margaret (Hughes). Loving father of Dianne, Jerry (Cathy) and Paul. Cherished Grampy of Shawn, Rebecca (Kris), Nicole, Brent, Joshua and Joey. Great-Grampy of Tate. Louis will be missed by his brother John (Mary). Brother-in-law of Eleanor “Ollie”. Louis is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Jerome and Mary (McKeeman) Hughes and siblings James, Maria Watts (Eric), George (Betty) and Evelyn Blanchard.  

 

Louis loved life, he had an infectious laugh and loved teasing and making people laugh. His favourite pastime was to play cards anytime, any day, anywhere and could often be heard saying, “Want to make a dollar?”  He was proud to be known as the “Godfather” of the Goodwill AA group with over 52 years of sobriety offering advice and fellowship to many. Louis and Margaret enjoyed spending their summers at Pine Hills Campground, socializing with fellow campers.  Louis was an avid golfer; golfing at Fox Meadow with his brother, John, his grandchildren and friends. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and ensuring his pockets were full of carrots for his granddogs, Nina and Kona to enjoy. 

 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 5-7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Stratford on Thursday at 10:30 am.  Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
