Obituary of Anita Elizabeth Rooney

On Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre, Anita (McCabe) Rooney (nee Murphy) of Orwell peacefully walked to her heavenly home with her children at her side.  Born on December 14, 1949 in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Morrissey) Murphy.  Loving mother of Janice (Rob) Morrison, Jason (Jennifer) McCabe and Ronnie (Marsha) McCabe.  Cherished grandmother to Landon (Hannah Keoughan) and Greg Morrison, Avery, Renee, Jake, Charlie, Ben and Nora McCabe.   She will be greatly missed by her brother Edward Murphy and sisters Mary McKenna and Martina Smith. Also fondly remembered by Richard’s children and the Rooney and McCabe families.

Anita is predeceased by her husbands Charlie McCabe and Richard Rooney and also by her sister-in-law Mary Lou Murphy and brothers-in-law Merlin McKenna and Leo Smith.

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford, where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 28th from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 29th at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Iona. Interment later in the parish cemetery.  If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Michael’s Church Cemetery Fund or the PEI Cerebral Palsy Association. 

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and caring staff at the PEI Cancer Treatment Center and the Provincial Palliative Care Centre for the kindness and loving care provided to Anita.
