Ken will be sadly missed and loving remembered by many; his best friend Bruce Hillstrom; Tim Horton coffee buddies; weekly pool buddies; all his sailing cohorts at the CYC, especially Donnie Walters; excellent neighbors Bill and Ann Nicolle; close friends Chuck and Mary Castle and Joanie Haye and Dale Ross.  He will be missed by his latest new friends of the Brendon Currans Barn, the crew at the racetrack Brendon, Kelsey and Oliver, Alby and Debbie Curran; Wilfred “Ookie” and Connor Pouton; Doug MacGregor and David Armattio; all the horses and Ruby the cat.

Predeceased by his parents Charles and Mary (Duncan) Hynes, siblings Clifford and Roberta “Bobbsey” Lannigan (Neil), mother-in-law and friend Thelma Jordan, sisters-in-law Virginia MacLeod and Edith Davey.

Born and educated in Charlottetown, Ken joined the Navy at the age of 17 years and spent 5 years, where he became a professional diver.  Returning to PEI, he worked as a Welder and Machinist, assisting the RCMP as an Auxiliary Officer in recovery diving when needed.  Ken taught welding at PVI, became a boiler inspector and went on to be a Chief Boiler Inspector for PEI.  During this time, Carol and Ken traveled with the National Board across the United States and Canada.  After his retirement, Ken went on to manage the ACI central for 20 years.  Following his retirement from ACI Central, Ken spent his time sailing his beloved SnapDragon from CYC, the Charlottetown Yacht Club.  Ken, Jim Rigney and Bruce Hillstrom aka “The Ancient Mariners” were a fierce racing team.  When fishing was on his mind, he pulled the Quagmire out of the garage and he was off to fish for the day.  Ken loved the solitude and peace of his day on the water.

Ken was a wonderful and solid friend to all who knew him and if you needed anything fixed you only had to ask.  He was meticulous in everything he did - no job too big or too small. It was a privilege and honor to have shared his life.

Ken was a lover of all animals, stray cats especially seemed to find him for their forever homes (Fleabag, Cinder and Bubba).  Beaky, the one-billed crow has been using 82 Bunbury Road as his home for the past number of years.

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 from 1-2:30 pm, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 3pm.  Interment will take place later at Murray Harbour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to the QEH Equipment Fund or the Murray Harbour Cemetery.

The family would like to express the utmost gratitude to all the first responders; firefighters, EMS, RCMP and coroner for their professionalism and compassion at this extremely difficult time.
