Winfred Gilbert Bridges
1929-2023
Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charlottetown Prince Edward Island on November 10,2023 at the age of 93.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, the son of the late Melvin and Joy Bridges. Survived by his brother Vance (Sheila). Winfred spent his childhood in Cascumpec,PE later moving to O’Leary PE and then Charlottetown PE.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elsie (Ashley) Bridges and is survived by their four children Debbe Hinchey (late Rev. Ray), Willow Blanchard (Merl), Duane (Hazel Fugard), Bonnie Brennan (Blaine).
Survived by his wife Florence (Buchanan) Bridges and their two sons Neil (Deidra) and Rev. Joel (Kia Marie)
He will be remembered by his grandchildren Melanie Champion, Marilee Reeves, Allan and Jamie Wood, Dylan Blanchard, Matthew Fugard, Kaelan and Carlene Brennan, Grayson, Emerson, Elliott Bridges and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Always ready for new experiences and challenges, Winfred enjoyed many different careers including; plumber, A.I. technician, and piano tuner. He also enjoyed being a ham radio operator and Gideon member.
A lover of music, especially gospel and bluegrass, Winfred played many instruments and was a member of many choirs and barbershop groups over the years. He really enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals.
Many summers were spent on his property on Cascumpec Bay making memories at the family cabin which he built himself and on the boat he rebuilt. Many funny stories and sweet memories of the boat rides on the bay.
Winfred had a steadfast faith never wavering in his love for the Lord, he faithfully attended church enjoying the fellowship and music. Winfred was a man full of joy, he loved to laugh and have fun. As Winfred always said, “Keep on the sunny side.” He will be forever loved and always missed.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. No visiting hours will be held. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 2 pm from Central Christian Church, Charlottetown. Interment will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 10 am in Mount Royal People’s Cemetery, O’Leary. All are welcome to attend.
