Obituary of Geraldine Marie Power

Geraldine “Gerrie” Marie Power, born to Ruth and Gerald Power in Bunbury, PEI, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, just shy of her 80th birthday.

Gerrie was a devoted mother to Natalie MacDonald (Stratford, PE), Chris MacDonald (Stratford, PE), Michelle Delorey (Randy, Tracadie, NS), and Brian MacDonald (Truro, NS). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Nicholas, William, Claire, and Ruby, who brought her endless joy.

She is survived by her siblings Arlene, Donna, Patrick, Bill Power and Glenn Hynes, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Gerrie was predeceased by her parents and brother Kevin.

A lifelong learner and passionate advocate, Gerrie pursued her higher education at Prince of Wales College (Class of 1965), St. Francis Xavier University (Class of 1967), and Carleton University, where she studied Social Work. 

Her career spanned all four Atlantic provinces, with her most impactful work in Guysborough County, NS, and across PEI. Gerrie’s dedication to children and families was unwavering, and her deep understanding of community connections left a lasting legacy.

In retirement, Gerrie embraced the simple joys of life on PEI—late mornings, coffee, ceilidhs, theatre, ice cream, beaches, sunshine, and everything purple. She was an avid traveler, sharing her love of exploration with her family and friends across six continents. She especially treasured her time on Caribbean islands, cruises, and religious pilgrimages.

Gerrie’s spirit was vibrant and generous, and her presence brought warmth and wisdom to all who knew her. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the Provincial Palliative Care team and to her dear friend Libby Coady, whose companionship brought light and laughter to Gerrie’s final days.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Stratford on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 2pm. Following the Mass a reception will be held for all those who would like to visit together and share stories and memories.

Memorial donations may be made online to the Provincial Palliative Care Centre or the Cancer Society.
